Highfield and Brookham School, a thriving co-educational Nursery, Pre-Prep, and Prep School, has an exciting opportunity for a new Head of Mathematics to lead the teaching of Maths across the school.
The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic and inspirational teacher, with excellent subject knowledge and the skills to stimulate, inspire and nurture pupils’ interest in Maths. They will have strong interpersonal skills and work collaboratively to continue to improve our already outstanding teaching to benefit our pupils.
Key responsibilities include:
- Teaching Mathematics to Upper Key Stage 2 (considering 11+ and ISEB Common Pre-Test) and Key Stage 3 (13+ Common Entrance and Scholarship level).
- Leading and inspiring the teaching of Mathematics across the school.
- Collaborating with teachers and monitoring and developing Maths at Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.
- Fostering a warm, friendly, and supportive learning environment.
- Working as part of a successful team, contributing new ideas and initiatives to enhance teaching quality.
- Delivering the Academic Extension programme on Saturday mornings for Years 5 to 8.
- Promoting a love for Mathematics across the school, ensuring high levels of interest and achievement.
Wider responsibilities include:
- Serving as a Form Tutor for Year 7 or 8, providing pastoral support.
- Coaching a sports team during the week and oversee fixtures on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
- Contributing to the co-curricular life of the school by running a club once a week.
- Supporting the wider school community, assisting in school events, performances, and extracurricular activities when required.
- Upholding the school’s values, policies, and safeguarding responsibilities.
This is a six day a week teaching role with half a day off in lieu.
Personal Profile
- Strong knowledge of mathematical concepts and effective teaching strategies.
- Ability to support students of varying abilities, including those preparing for scholarship exams.
- Familiarity with White Rose Maths or Power Maths (beneficial but not essential).
- Confident use of IT for teaching and record-keeping.
- Professional and approachable demeanour with colleagues and parents.
- Passionate and enthusiastic about teaching and inspiring pupils with excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage and motivate pupils.
- Strong teamwork and collaborative skills.
- Highly organised with strong attention to detail in lesson planning and assessment.
- Experience or willingness to be a Form Tutor.
- Ability to coach sports and contribute to the school’s extracurricular program (preferred).
