Plymouth College Supports St John Ambulance COVID-19 Vaccination Training Programme

With the recent roll-out of the COVID-19 vaccine, Plymouth College are supporting and working with the St John Ambulance Service by providing their Prep School site, located at The Millfields, to train volunteers over five weekends in the administering of the COVID-19 vaccinations.

The current lockdown guidelines have meant that only a small number of Plymouth College pupils from both the Prep and the Senior School who are children of critical workers have remained on the Senior School site in socially distanced bubbles.

Whilst teaching critical worker children on-site, Plymouth College teachers have also been working tirelessly in the successful delivery of the Home Learning Plan, which has been praised by Plymouth College parents for its vibrant mixture of live, teacher-led online lessons, along with extra-curricular activities such as live PE and a virtual choir which the pupils, parents, as well as staff, are able to take part in, as well as ‘off-screen’ challenges to ensure that the children have plenty of time away from their devices too.

The vacancy of the Prep School site has meant that St John Ambulance are able to safely use the facility for the training of all volunteers to safely administer the COVID-19 vaccine and roll-out to people living in Plymouth.

Jo Hayward, Head, said: “We are pleased to be able to support the St John Ambulance in their work as part of the roll-out of the Covid-19 Mass Vaccination Programme, and will do all we can to assist in facilitating the delivery of the vaccine to the people of Plymouth where needed going forwards.”
