A Richard Huish College student and Alumni were amongst the ten winners at the 15th Pride of Somerset Youth Awards, hosted by BBC Somerset presenters Claire Carter and Simon Parkin.
The awards, which are jointly organised by BBC Somerset, the Rotary Club of Taunton and Somerset Day, celebrate the determination and success of young people.
At the ceremony attended by winners, supporters, and VIPs the audience heard how current Huish student, Seren Rodgers was “fearless and tenacious, with a tremendous drive to succeed”. She was honoured for her efforts as a pentathlete. Seren has recently secured a sports scholarship for an American University and qualified for the U18 European Championships in Jerusalem.
Also commended for their success in sport was Reagan Gallagher, from The Taunton Academy, a fellow member of the Richard Huish Trust. He was honoured for winning medals in the Swim Wales Winter National and earning selection for the English Regional Schools Team.
Hannah Buckman, of the Huish Class of 2021, won top honors taking home The Sandy Padgett Award. Whilst completing her A Levels, Hannah worked as a volunteer at two covid vaccination centres, coached trampolining at Quayside Gymnastics Club and trained as a Street Pastor. She is now studying Radiology at Plymouth University and has spent time shadowing NHS staff at Derriford and Launceston hospitals.
