Christ’s Hospital was recognised for its work in the field of social mobility at the Independent School of the Year 2022 annual awards ceremony on 11 October 2022.
The judges’ Special Award for Contribution to Social Mobility was presented to Christ’s Hospital by Dr Helen Wright, Chair of the Independent School of the Year Awards, with the following words:
‘The judges have a special award to make, to a school which has social mobility in its very DNA and has a seriously impressive bursary programme. Now, because of this it makes it harder, arguably, for this school to demonstrate distinct impact in a single year…. although the judges would encourage it to keep entering to set the benchmark. We feel that it is important and timely that this school is recognised for its work in the field of social mobility and so we would very much like to make this Special Award to Christ’s Hospital.’
Head Teacher of Christ’s Hospital, Simon Reid, said ‘It has always been our mission at Christ’s Hospital to enable those from all corners of society to come together and thrive regardless of their background; social mobility is at the very core of what we do. We are delighted that this has been recognised by the Independent Schools’ Awards and will display the award with real pride.’
Christ’s Hospital is the UK’s leading charitable school and largest bursary charity. The School was established in 1552 and provides free or substantially reduced cost places to over 630 of its 900 pupils each year – this is more than any other organisation in the UK. Through first-class education and exceptional pastoral support, Christ’s Hospital provides each pupil with stability and the opportunity to thrive and fulfil their potential.
Independent Schools of the Year is an annual awards programme run by Independent School Parent magazine.
