Royal High School Bath was delighted to welcome Heywood Prep School pupils for a recording session in their state-of-the-art Steinway Music School over the weekend (26 November 2022).
Heywood Prep’s Choir comprising Year 5 and Year 6 pupils spent the morning perfecting John Williams’ ‘Christmas Star’ for a festive recording that will be shared on their website and with family and friends. They will be accompanied by Royal High’s Chamber Choir and music scholars on the flute, oboe and clarinet. Thanks to the Royal High’s professional standard recording facilities and engineers, the two Choirs and instrumentalists will be recorded separately but will come together on the final track.
One of the Heywood Prep School pupils said: “It was so exciting to be able to record a song in a real recording studio. I loved that we could listen back to the song and find ways to improve on it and I can’t wait to hear the finished piece after Royal High have added their instrumental parts. It was such an amazing experience to have shared with the rest of the Advanced Singers!”
Angelique Williams, Head of Music at Heywood Prep School, said: “It was an absolute honour to record a Christmas song at Royal High’s incredible Steinway Music School. Heywood Prep children have been inspired by Royal High’s incredible Senior School musicians and singers and they loved having the opportunity to work in a professional recording environment. We cannot wait to hear our finished song and look forward to lots of exciting collaborative projects next year!”
Mark Bradbury, Director of Music at Royal High School Bath, said “We loved performing with Heywood Prep at Bath Abbey for a lunchtime concert recently and were thrilled to be able to invite them to our Steinway Music School to record this holiday favourite. We are fortunate to have such fantastic facilities for music including a fully-kitted out recording studio and felt it would be a great experience for the children and really give them an insight into what it is like to record a track in a professional recording studio. The children did not disappoint; they were wonderful to work with and really enjoyed their recording session with us. We are proud to have a really great partnership with Heywood Prep and look forward to future collaborative projects, bringing together and inspiring our two schools with a shared passion for music and for nurturing young voices.”
