Students studying Classical Civilisation at Richard Huish College travelled across Europe to get further insight into the art, history, mythology, and politics of Ancient Greece.
Before checking into a hotel in Athens the students visited the Temple of Poseidon on Cape Sounion, which is dedicated to the God Poseidon, ‘the master of the sea’. They ate dinner in the bay below with a stunning view of the floodlit temple.
The next morning they toured Athens visiting The Agora and the Acropolis. The Acropolis features the Theatre of Dionysus, Odeon of Pericles, and Rock of Areopagus, which the students enthusiastically climbed.
Exploring the museums, they viewed artworks they have learnt about on the course before developing an understanding of the local culture at a Greek experience night that evening.
On day three, the students boarded a ferry to Aegina and travelled onwards to the Temple of Aphaia before checking into a hotel in Delphi. The next day they visited the sites and museums of Delphi and travelled to Olympia.
The fifth day was spent exploring the Olympia site and museum before returning to Athens. Whilst at Olympia the students got in the sporting spirit by taking part in a foot race and the winners took a place on the podium.
After a visit to the National Archaeological Museum, the final day was spent in Marathon viewing the Athenian Toumba, Plataean Toumba, Villa of Herodes Atticus, the Sanctuary of Egyptian Gods, and enjoying the beach.
