Lancing College was inspected under the Independent Schools Inspectorate’s (ISI) new
framework, which came into effect in September 2023.
The final report, published this month, reflects the excellence of the College and the superb
nature of the care and work with pupils both within and beyond the classroom. The College
is recognised to meet – and in many cases exceed – all the standards and regulations
governing the running of an independent boarding school, and to be compliant in all areas.
Lancing College’s pastoral provision has been recognised as a ‘Significant Strength’ – a
rare accolade. To be described in this way is the highest honour of the new Inspection
structure. It is a label applied only where a school does something truly exceptional and with
impact across the whole pupil body. It is designed to be something rare and such
affirmation is to be treasured. Lancing College is one of the first schools in the country to
have been awarded this hugely exciting validation.
‘Pupils feel valued as individuals and actively celebrate being members of a diverse school
community’ – ISI 2023
Commenting on the report, Head Master Dominic Oliver said “We are extremely proud that
our outstanding pastoral care has been recognised by the Inspectors. Our knowledge and
care for the young people here underpins everything at Lancing. Working alongside the
learning culture of the school – so clearly evidenced in last summer’s excellent A Level and
GCSE results – this makes for outstanding outcomes. All of us at Lancing are immensely
proud to be part of the College community – it is a place where the wellbeing and progress
of young people are blended to generate something truly special. This combination makes
for the formal label of Significant Strength.”
