Posted: 18th April 2024

Four Taunton School students qualified for the finals of the National Bath Cup Swimming Competition and picked up a bronze medal in the 4x50m Freestyle Relay.

Libby (Year 9), Frankie (Year 11), Izzy (Year 12), and Eva (Year 13) also came in fourth place in the 4x50m Medley Relay, being 0.6 seconds behind third place.

The event, which takes place in the 50m Olympic pool at London’s Aquatic Centre, involves teams from more than 100 independent schools across the country and dates back to 1923.

“We are extremely proud of what our team achieved,” said Taunton School Director of Sport, Dan Pettifer. “They were up against tough competition from schools across the country.

“Their success is testament to their hard work and dedication and also the support from coaches here at Taunton School and Taunton Deane Swimming Club.”

Taunton School offers all students a swimming programme to suit their own abilities which operates throughout the school year, as well as a dedicated Head of Swimming Development and Long-Distance Swimming Club – a co-curricular club which is currently training its students to swim the English Channel later this year following a number of previously successful swims since beginning in 2015.

Scholarships and assisted places at Taunton School are available each year to students with a particular talent and interest in sports, including swimming, at Year 7, Year 9, and Year 12 (Sixth Form) entry. Find out more by visiting https://www.tauntonschool.co.uk/scholarships/
