Celebrating Dedication and Service – Mr Tony Jenkins Honoured for Military and Volunteer Contributions

Posted: 11th February 2025

This week, Mrs Katherine Jeffrey, Principal of New Hall School in Chelmsford, presented the King Charles III Coronation Medal to Mr Tony Jenkins, Head of Boarding in Petre House. Mr Jenkins served in the Army for 25 years, followed by 10 years as a Cadet Adult Volunteer. This medal was awarded to Mr Jenkins as a gift from the nation to commemorate the Coronation, in recognition of his dedication and contribution to the country as a Cadet Adult Volunteer.

Katherine Jeffrey commented “New Hall’s Catholic foundation shapes every aspect of School life. A deep commitment to community service is at the heart of everything we do. We are very proud of Mr Jenkins as he joins those in New Hall’s history who have devoted themselves to making a meaningful impact within the local community and beyond.”

At New Hall, a special value is placed on community and service, and this is lived out in the actions of the volunteers who take part in the award-winning New Hall Voluntary Service (NHVS). Founded in 1978, this thriving programme has been providing support to vulnerable members of the local community for over 45 years. Students, staff and parents volunteer weekly in eight action groups, hosting elderly guests and adults with learning disabilities onsite and tutoring local primary school children, and supporting local allotments offsite. Volunteering for NHVS promotes an enduring community spirit, nurtures responsible citizenship and encourages students to develop confidence, leadership and teamwork skills.

As a school committed to service, New Hall is also dedicated to supporting military families and recognises the importance of stability for children within the unique and often fluctuating circumstances of service personnel families. The New Hall Armed Forces Award ensures that full boarders from military backgrounds benefit from significantly reduced fees, whilst students eligible for the Continuity of Education Allowance (CEA) receive further financial support, including an annual Forces Co-Curricular Grant, for co-curricular activities undertaken at School.

New Hall School is attending the UK Boarding School Exhibition (British Forces) in Colchester on 12 February 2025, hosted by Anderson Education, and the School is hosting its next Open Day on 3 May 2025.
