St. Francis’ College proudly announces the official opening of the Iris Lawlor Laboratory, made possible by a generous donation from alumna Helen Muirhead, whose family’s legacy continues to inspire and support our STEM students.

St. Francis’ College is delighted to announce the official opening of the new Iris Lawlor Laboratory, made possible through the generous donation of Iris Lawlor’s daughter, Helen Muirhead.

Helen, her husband, and her father joined us last week for a special celebration. The celebration included a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the laboratory entrance, followed by a celebratory school lunch.

Iris Lawlor was one of the first students at St. Francis’ College in the 1930s, and her legacy continues through this remarkable contribution. Helen Muirhead, also a former student, currently serves as the Senior Vice President of Respiratory Medicines at GMPharma Limited. With extensive experience at GSK, Helen is a leading expert in treatments for asthma and lung disease.

We are always grateful for Helen’s continued support of our Sixth Form scientists. She regularly shares her vast knowledge about careers in the field and the importance of teamwork, highlighting the collaboration between biologists, chemists, and engineers in developing life-changing treatments such as inhalers.

Students are already benefiting from the new facility, which further enhances our already excellent STEM provision.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Helen Muirhead and her family for their generosity and commitment to the advancement of science education at St. Francis’ College.
