Royal High Bath, GDST is an academically selective, independent day (3-18) and boarding (11-18) school for approximately 600 girls. Both Prep and Senior Schools are both situated on the northern side of Bath, enjoying commanding views of the city and with good access to the A46 and M4. The Sixth Form is on the same site as the Senior School. The Prep School is located at Cranwell House, which is a 25-minute walk / 10 minute drive from the senior site. Cranwell consists of a refurbished Victorian mansion and a modern new building designed by Feilden Clegg Bradley. The Prep School site is approximately 11 acres. The Senior site provides a fusion of history and heritage with modern and contemporary facilities which combine to create a perfect learning and teaching experience. Facilities on the site include an Art School, Performing Arts Theatre, Multi-Gym and Sports Hall.
Boarding is available in two Houses – Years 7-11 have their home in School House, with Sixth Form boarding in Gloucester House. An exceptionally experienced and dedicated team of boarding staff live in the boarding houses alongside the girls. They provide 24/7 guidance and support and take great care in getting to know each and every girl personally and creating a secure environment in which every girl is able to thrive.
All students are encouraged to take on leadership roles and student voice within our boarding houses helps shape how they are run. Being part of our family of boarders helps girls develop their sense of confidence and the programme of evening and weekend activities provides new experiences.
The school, supported by the Girls’ Day School Trust (GDST), completed an extensive roof replacement project and the school’s boarding houses were completely refurbished in 2017. A new recording studio and Steinway Music School was built in 2019 and there are exciting plans to enhance the sporting facilities at the senior school. Committed to academic excellence, the school has outstanding results at GCSE and post 16 level and there is demand for places. Sixth Form students choose between A level and the International Baccalaureate Diploma, the only school who offers this pathway in the Bath area.
Student wellbeing is a key focus for Royal High Bath, GDST with pastoral provision which aims to nurture and support each student throughout their academic career, making sure every girl is known and can flourish. A Pastoral Hub has been developed on both Prep and Senior Sites – the Hive is a space for peaceful reflection, and at the senior school, includes a Contemplation Room and quiet study zone – the space is used for many of the co-curricular clubs and activities at the school. Students have access to in-house counselling provided by a UKCP registered psychotherapist and a MBACP registered counsellor who both specialise in young people who is on hand to listen and support. Spencer, the wellbeing dog is the star of the show with the girls. All students from Years 8-11 have their own dedicated common rooms as well.
